Great Grandma's Apple Pie

Sale Price: $18.70 Original Price: $22.00

Christmas is a wonderful time of year where we intentionally spend time with family, ones we see daily, some occasionally, or even rarely. There are still others in our family who have passed on, and we remember them dearly. Granny’s famous apple pie helps me do just that. It has been in the family for generations, dating back to my great-grandmother, and has been passed down to my grandmother and all generations since. I want to share a little bit about her and why this Apple Pie is such a special recipe.

Gladys (Granny) was a fantastic woman who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family. She was resilient, loving, kind, spunky, and did not shy away from telling the truth in love to whoever needed to hear it. Some of my dearest memories happened when my family would go visit her and my grandfather in Texas every summer for a couple of weeks. Often, my extended family would come during those same weeks we were there. Both she and Papa enjoyed it immensely, and their house was full of fun, joy, and peace! Everyone in the family looked forward to going to my grandparents'. Years later, when they moved back to Colorado to retire, their house was always a favorite spot for family vacations. Even to this day, our extended family (which has grown quite a bit since then) loves being together and still looks forward to vacations in Colorado.

Her famous apple pie encapsulates her personality in food form. The perfect combination of tart Granny Smith Apples and the sweet brown sugar/cinnamon filling displays a joyous blend of spunkiness and love.   The flaky crust is my aunt’s recipe, who, along with other family members in Colorado, has kept Granny’s joy and spunk alive.

Try this amazing pie for yourself, and may it remind you of the joy of generations past or present in your family this Christmas season.
